Giuliano Mignini Promotion Places Him First In Line For Prosecutor General of The Region Of Umbria

Umbria of course is the Region for which Perugia is the capital and the current Prosecutor General is Dr Galati who will soon retire.

The post that the popular Dr Mignini was promoted into on his high-scoring merit this past week is one of three deputy prosecutor general posts. The promotion was delayed because of the rogue prosecution against him which Cassation annulled, but he is the most senior and most high-scoring of the three so he should succeed Dr Galati.

We will post the full story (it is a long and impressive one) after our series of posts on the Cassation outcome is done. The story includes an almost unprecedented THREE Cassation wins in just the past several months.

  • One obviously was Dr Mignini’s role in the overturn of the Knox-Sollecito appeal and confirmation of Knox’s felony conviction. His main role was to have presented an error-free case at trial in 2009 resulting in the solid grounding of the Massei Report just praised by the Supreme Court.

  • One was the final termination of the spurious prosecution against Dr Mignini and Dr Michele Giuttari in Florence by a rogue prosecutor who was desperate to cover his tail after he was (legally) caught on tape incriminating himself.

  • One was the Cassation decision to permit the reopening of the MOF-related Narducci case and to confirm that investigations and prosecutions against nearly two dozen who had been seemingly obstructing justice may proceed.

Congratulations to a fearless and effective prosecutor. We will update his full story here soon.

I hope he gets the job. One thing the Knox bunch have failed to realize is that Italy is not the USA and legal matters that work in the US do not translate to other countries.

Also pissing people off by calling them names is a very risky business particularly if they are in a position of power because doing so makes them far more careful about getting their ducks in a row.

Good for Mignini. Bad for Knox and Sollicito

And for Mario Spezi and Doug Preston and Nina Burleigh and Bruce Fischer and Frank Sforza and Raffaele Sollecito.

“Put up or shup up time” has already passed. They have conspicuously failed to put up. Now silence is their only (faint) hope.

Faint and getting fainter

Hear, hear! “a fearless and effective prosecutor”, that is surely Giuliano Mignini. Congratulations yes, he has been a bastion of truth and sensitivity in Meredith’s case. Now he’s a PG, he’ll make a great appeals judge.

This photo of him at Lake Trasimeno where they found the doctor’s body has the exact colors of blues in a new comforter I bought today. I had scarcely removed it from the package when I saw this picture with Mignini on the pier, yet he has few peers. Is that the great Garafano beside Mignini? My kingdom for half those men’s brains and courage.

Hopeful points out the great Garofano.

Sharp eyes! I hadnt realised. The Machine especially admires former General Luciano Garofano, the founder and “father” of forensic DNA testing in Italy:

Distinguished DNA expert and former Caribinieri General Luciano Garofano analysed the DNA and forensic evidence for the early 2010 book “Darkness Descending”.

He has more than 32 years of forensics experience and is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. In his section of the book he explains at length why he too thinks that Knox and Sollecito are guilty of Meredith’s murder.

In an interview with The Sun’s Nick Francis, he said that the right people had been convicted:  “I believe the police have prosecuted and convicted the right people, even if they got some of the details wrong.”

He told reporter Andrea Vogt that there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn Knox’s and Sollecito’s convictions:  “I do not believe that there is enough evidence to convince an Italian magistrate and jury to overturn this conviction”.

Also Fly By Night mentioned in his great first post on the appeal-court DNA testing (now confirmed illegal by the Supreme Court) that Dr Garofano provided a long testimonial on Dr Stefanoni and her laboratory.

I did not read any rectification from Joël Simon of the CPJ, after the new (for him!)  Sfarzo & Mignini context, yet.

He is still blaming Mignini.

In fact he is not protecting serious journalism at this very moment.

Hi Helder

Good point. We believe that strong corrective action against CPJ is ahead. The developments described in the post all happened in the past several months.
