I hope that in the first instance Ms. Sullivan and team take note of our tweets and emails.

But what is really important is that the Italian Judiciary follow up on this grubby, dishonest and self-serving attempt to blind the American public and that the relevant US authorities sit up and take note.

Amanda Knox is a murderer and it is time she accepts the right and just consequences for the brutal slaying of an innocent victim, Meredith Kercher.

Amanda Knox to return to Italy, but only if lawyers deem it ‘necessary’

On May 10, 2013 a French news source revealed that Amanda Knox claims that she will return to Italy, but only if her lawyers decide it’s necessary. This appears to be another version of the promise Amanda made minutes after the Italian High Court reversed her appeal. First she promised to cooperate fully with the Italian courts, but then later alluded to the idea that she would not cooperate.

In other words, the United States is harboring a murder suspect until she is convicted again in the Italian court. Once she’s convicted, and she likely will be, the U.S. will be expected to extradite her as per the extradition treaty signed by Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. Legal experts with multiple crime blogs and mainstream news sources have explained to the public multiple times over the past month that the U.S. will most likely extradite, regardless of what her fan club might decry.

Half of the paper edition of the Sunday New York Times is delivered to subscribers on Saturday mornings. That includes the part where the NY Times covers the Knox book.

We should know in 3-4 hours whether the objections succeeded and if not, how far overboard the Times has gone. Crime reporting has never been its strong suit.

Can everybody see it? As a subscriber I’m logged in. Thats the long version. I have the paper version of the Books section which came with today’s paper.

The interview there is shorter: two tabloid columns. It looks rather pretentious stuff at first glance.

The Times reporting has been disappointing at best and now the Public Editor knows this we should expect a more careful and informed watch.

We changed YouTubes when the one we originally embedded (without that large box at bottom) was made private.

Delighted to hear that Knox’s book will probably be pulled throughout Europe.Will she or Harper Collins or both be charged with defamation of the Italian legal system. Sollecito is already likely to face such charges.

Will this also affect both their ghost writers as well..(I certainly hope so…writers??..more like hired guns with mercenary hearts..)Out of interest what are the mechanics of this? Who carries the complaint to Harper Collins and if they are found to be at fault can Harper Collins be fined heavily??

As previously stated Knox and Sollecito seem deaf to the well known advice..when in a hole stop digging. Their only hope is to tell the truth.

AN OPEN LETTER TO AMANDA KNOX

Dear Amanda

Since it has become obvious that you find it impossible to make any decision on your own I wish to point out several things that will impact upon your life in the very near future.

(1) Your biological father Curt Knox may have nothing to do with you once you have served your purpose. That of course is to provide him and others with a financial return for their efforts. Face it Amanda your father Curt is using you and once you are in jail he and all the others could simply disappear, and your life will be better as a result.

(2) The people who say they are interested in your welfare are really only interested in theirs and perhaps you should also realize that this will never end until you make a full confession.

(3) You may ask yourself why we (the people on this site and many hundreds of thousands of others world wide) care so very much. Well this is because we value education, intellect and the potential of many people who have talent and the ambition to see it through above anything else.

People who have this ability make a contribution to society and by extension the human ideal. This contribution to the human condition is something you will never accomplish unless you tell the truth.

I believe you, just like Jody Arias, snuffed out the life of a wonderful intelligent caring human being, and whether you like it or not you will pay for that either by the guilt which is eating you up or in some other way. You cannot go on denying this too much longer.

Do you really imagine that Sollicito and Guede are going to provide you with an alibi for too much longer? Understand that when it’s Sollicito’s turn to go to jail he will not keep silent as to your involvement, so for your own sanity I advise you to admit your guilt and involvement in the murder of Meredith Kercher.

Question:  don’t you think Sollecito keeps silent because, if he turns on her, she will also turn on him?  He has that troublesome footprint and his DNA on the bra clasp, not to mention one of the possible murder weapons (with Amanda’s DNA on the handle and Meredith’s on the knife point) found at his house, which he explained away with an obvious lie (he had pricked Meredith’s finger in a visit when, in truth, she had never been at his apartment.  So, it seems to me, he has a lot to lose if he tries to spin this, so that she is the only one involved.  You seem so certain, Grahame. So, I’m trying to understand how you see it the way you do. Can you explain?

Many here are equally certain though they worked very hard to get to that. Scroll down to SomeAlibis post on the footprint; there are several smoking guns like that, some of which you yourself just seemed to list.

Regarding RS not selling AK out, I wonder if you have read his book? The entire book is devoted to explaining why his evidence is nil (he even again and again says that the police also thought that) whereas she is really in the soup.

The whole point of the title of the book is about that - how he could be home free, but he isnt that kind of guy.

At trial he gave her zero help, and at one point AK got very emotional and asked for a private chat in Cappanne. (She was made to write.) She clearly wanted at minimum for him to say her alibi was the truth; but he never did.

Its in four parts and written by an Italian lawyer for us. Guede felt he was being pushed closest to the fire in 2008 which is why he took the short form trial, to separate him from them.

Its mixed criminal and civil actions with the criminal tending to come first. There is no rush. We wait now for the first action, the subject of the post.

Sorry to be a bit terse. There’s a tendency now not to let it all hang out. People in Italy and here have had enough of being flamed.

Plus there’s no point in giving the defense lawyers who largely helped to create this mess pointers and heads-ups for how they can get themselves out.

They are paid big bucks (especially Ted Simon and Robert Barnett who may get 5X what the Perugia lawyers get) to keep their clients out of such a mess.

I do not understand the NY Times article - they seem to be intent on making her out to be the next world-famous author, an intellectual prodigy or something of the sort.  You can’t tell me she spoke like this off the cuff with an interviewer.  Or did she receive the questions in writing?  Do you really think she wrote all of those answers herself? 

If so, she has changed from a nearly illiterate 20 year old who could barely spell or string a coherent sentence together to a 25 year old polished writer with professor-like critiques of literary works (her language is equally incomprehensible as most professors’, I might add)  “tending toward the epic” etc.  Her Waiting to be Heard book was written in much more simple language, whereas here she throws around ‘revolving thematically around identity and sacrifice” “captivating narrative’ etc. - it doesn’t even sound like her. 

How can they make out her book to be some brilliant masterpiece, when she had a ghost writer?

On what legal fireworks are ahead, the defense lawyers will have figured at least this much out and it is a lulu. Ghirga and Dalla Vedova and Bongiorno and Maori will all be called to testify FOR THE STATE against the claims of Knox and the publishers.

There is no conflict of interest or question of privilege because this is a separate case about a published book with false accusations of crimes against officers of the court who are specially protected because they stepped up to take on anti-mafia cases.

Knox will be on trial here and given the gravity it could happen fast, perhaps well before the repeat of the appeal. Reporters should ask Knox and Barnett and Simon and the publishers: will they attend? They will be the ones on trial.

The charges are filed. Reporting on them should happen next week. Watch for conniptions from all the lawyers, as they finally, finally wake up to where they have been placed, thanks to their lovable clients.

Thank you Peter. Simply curious.  Believe me I have no sympathy for Knox,her family or crew of legal eagles. It is indeed “criminal” that Harper Collins and their lawyers along with the Knox clan can peddle lies and defamation.

Particularly in the face of an ongoing murder trial. It is beyond despicable. I can only agree wholeheartedly with Graham Rhodes’ post that if Knox wants to salvage a shred of human decency from her deeply disturbing personality she tries being brave enough to tell the truth for a change. 

Amanda Knox may not get it, but if she really were innocent, many of the posters on this site would likely fight her corner. Her own soulless arrogance has led her to where she stands today. Hopefully she will return to Italy and tell the truth (though I may be naive).

Sure, everyone wants to know. Its the flaming and illegal games of the Knox forces that have pushed what would normally be open legal moves out of sight.

Knox now has created for herself the problem of deciding whether to attend at least TWO trials (Sollecito too) in Italy or almost certainly lose both by default. 

Moral: Dont write books before the fat lady sings.

Thanks Peter. It certainly seems like the Italian courts have to insist on unraveling the thread of serious defamation from both Knox and Sollecito. From what I have read in your previous posts the Italian courts afford defendants strong protection under the law. Also due to anti mafia laws, defaming the judiciary carries heavy penalties. Irony is they really should listen to you.

The other Irony is as you say that Knox’s and Sollecito’s lawyers are required to testify as to the due diligence of the Italian courts and judicial process in spite of anything their “clients” claim to the contrary.

Have re read your post. So the Italian State vs Knox may be heard soon, and on US soil? Harpers and Collins must be holding a serious review on publishing books by an accused murderer in the middle of a trial.

Serves them right if they lose millions on this. Maybe they could get better legal advice or even buy a conscience…if anyone who lives by the markets alone actually has a conscience. Cheered me up no end.

All trials now being envisaged would be in Italy. Civil defamation trials in the US after that are quite possible but all the hard facts need to be brought out in Italy.

We’ve been describing Italian justice and the details of the case for five years to a smart but limited audience.

Now Sollecito and Knox have opened up a way for the whole world to get the truth under oath on each of the false claims one by one. Sollecito and Knox have really delivered the Italians affected a godsend.

And remember others have caused their own problems by going to such excess. Doug Preston, Mario Spezi, Bruce Fischer, Steve Moore…

On ghost writers. This sure has its funny side.

When the Sollecito people hired Andrew Gumbel they hired a British-born American who had already swallowed all the myths and had a chip on his shoulder about Italy. The only sources he used were the FOA websites and Preston and Dempsey and Burleigh who have no relevant qualifications in anything. Plus the Sollecito people in Italy. He didnt go near anyone with an “alternate truth”.

The book that emerged was quite daft. Angry and sneering and full of mistakes. It set out to assert Guede alone did it, though nobody in court ever asserted that - the defense brought in Alessi and Aviello to prove quite the opposite. It also asserted Mignini ofered a deal.

When Sollecito got on the US talk show circuit six months ago he did not have even one clean success. From Katie Couric to Anderson Cooper to Jane Velez Mitchell to the interview at the University of Washington he was timid and uncertain and factually anemic. Katie Couric actually picked up that he couldnt recall what his ghost writer wrote.

Now we see the same thing happening with Amanda Knox.

The ghost writer Linda Kulman put in all manner of landmines and Knox can barely move an inch in spontaneously talking about it without risk of blowing herself up. When there are trials it will the Knox and Sollecito sitting in the primary hot seats if they turn up. Will their ghost writers be sitting alongside, to remind them of what they wrote?

Well, yes, Gumbel will presumably be there as a defendant, but the Knox ghost writer is under wraps so the world can think “what a great prose style she has”.

Well done John Forbes, Machine, and especially Andrea Vogt and John Follain for good, fast in-depth reporting.

This is several days earlier and longer than we expected.  As explained above and in the past several posts, this is really only the nose of the camel under the tent.

The suits will expand to cover both the hapless books and also the interviews and will drag in everyone who was part of them and set the stage for US legal action.

Very interesting developments…but, not surprising. Good for Mignini.

This is positive news.

If this really does take hold in the way suggested above then the media-promoted fawning of Amanda Knox should change direction and the Media realise the hard way that due diligence is necessary when researching and publishing.

‘A conversation needs to be had’ about the Media and its sloppy reporting as well as the ability of a criminal and her family to hire a PR firm in order to manipulate public opinion and both profit from a crime and pervert the course of justice.

I expect the reaction in the USA will be that this is another example of Mignini persecuting America’s daughter, Amanda.  Wait to see all the white knights rush to her defence. 

Isn’t it about time that someone with some common sense from the US Administration stepped in to put a stop to the nonsense?

I continue, even after all these years, to be shocked that the US networks swallow the lies especially considering the harsh reporting that has followed the trials of other notorious women in the last few years. 

One would have thought that, after viewing the spectacle of Raffaele Sollecito on the TV screens, the likes of Diane Sawyer et al would have been more sceptical when it came to Amanda Knox’s turn- or at least the various News Channels involved.

Surely after interviewing her their eyes are now wide open? Why did ABC, CNN and others allow this slanderous farce to take place?  Is it really just for the money at the end of the day?

Yet I imagine the real reason for this - a factor missing in the other women’s cases - was/is that the ‘unknown’ of a foreign judicial system aroused all the latent fears and prejudices of Insular Ignorance.

I look forward to the ‘onslaught’ of Justice as these legal actions unfold and develop drawing in to them EVERYONE involved in this dishonest and sordid affair.

P.S. Perhaps someone should send Mignini a complimentary copy of ‘Waiting To Be Heard’ to hasten the process.

Great questions. Hopefully the media bandwagon screeches to a halt. It will be interesting to watch for this. It is condescending toward Italy, that is for sure. A real low point. There has never been a private campaign against another country similar to Curt Knox’s. The affected government departments despise it.

Will the Knox Mellases speak up? Or have they done enough damage? Will Bob Barnett? Or is he feeling pretty foolish? Will Bruce Fischer and his gang leap all over this? Better not, maybe. Their past postings are already under examination, and a complaint against Fischer has been filed. Doug Preston faces court for other crimes.

Send a copy of the book to Mignini at the Perugia courthouse by all means, he can always use more. He must have had a datestamped receipt in his own name to accompany the “official” copy to the prosecutor’s office.

I completely agree with @thundering that ‘a conversation needs to be had’ re the Media and PR campaigns.

It is a new feature of technology that misinformation can now be widespread efficiently within extremely short time frames. This is potentially extremely harmful, not least to the smooth orderly running of our society, ( and the institutions upon which we depend for this).

Here in the UK there are beginning to be libel actions against some Twitter rumours/ misinformation (cf Sally Bercow)...

And I hope this will continue until people in general begin to realize that they simply should never state that information is fact until it is established as such with certainty.
But what about people who don’t have the means to sue or fight back?

It is shocking to me that the Knox PR campaign has happened in the way it has. It is important beyond this case.
I wonder if it would have happened in Britain, or whether people would have been so gullible ? Interesting that the Harpers book was never run here.

I agree it seems quite likely the significant factor in the sloppy media treatment of this case, as distinct from the domestic ones, is that “the ‘unknown’ of a foreign judicial system aroused all the latent fears and prejudices of Insular Ignorance.”

Also there seems to have been a failure to understand the multi-level system of Italian jurisprudence, so that when Knox and Sollecito won their appeal that was thought to be the end of the matter. Then of course, with the overturning of the aquittal, the lovely couple have been painted as victims of outright persecution by a crazed, vindictive, antediluvian,etc (insert your own negative adjective)judicial system, a view no doubt supported by the AK PR machine.

Overall there’s not been much desire by the media to comprehend or explain a different culture. Maybe it’s thought such an approach will be above the heads of their audience - a self-validating philosophy if it becomes the rule!

As Peter has explained it may be that after all the hard facts have been established in the Italian courts then the door to civil claims in the US may open.

Can only agree with thundering who comments on the need for a conversation on the role of the media.There is surely a Phd thesis waiting to be written here..(maybe the Glasgow media group).

A different judicial process in a different language, a million dollar PR campaign that spun lie after lie to the networks never letting evidence based judicial process get in the way of selling copy.Thankfully that all now appears to be changing.
