Perhaps one of the two cities on Earth that doesn’t need to be named. About four hours from Perugia. Meredith sure had a lot to look forward to.
Venice at night (our next post in this series) is really spectacular now that, like Rome, Perugia, Naples (all posted on previously) and so many other Italian cities, it is beautifully floodlit.

I was in Venice. Thanks for the memories! St. Marcos Square, lions on cathedral, gorgeous. So many pigeons. Water, water. Meredith sure got ripped off.
Only consolation when the good die young:
Ben Johnson?:
It is not growing like a tree,
In bulk, doth make man better be,
Nor standing long an oak,
500 year
To fall at last a log,
Dry, bald, and sere.
A lily of a day
Is fairer far in May.
Although it die and fall that night,
It was the plant and flower of light.
So in proportions we just beauties see,
And in small measures life may perfect be.
I ask poet’s pardon if I misquote. It’s not how many days we live, but the essence of our life. Meredith was great. I think she would have gotten greater.
“But throughout the interview, the impression that Curt and Edda were clutching at straws was difficult to dispel.”
