UK Cosmpolitan Magazine Rightly Names Stephanie Kercher As A Woman Of The Year
Posted by Our Main Posters
We posted Stephanie’s Open Letter about herself and Meredith back in November 2011.
This much deserved award is widely reported in the UK. Good interview by Rosie Mullender in Cosmopolitan and she indicates that another longer one is to come.
When we met near our offices, I was nervous ““ Meredith’s death would obviously be a devastating subject to talk about, and I wasn’t sure how Stephanie would deal with being asked about what happened.
But as soon as I met her, I relaxed. Stephanie is warm, open and friendly, and her face lights up every time she talks about her sister. As she told me all the wonderful things she remembered about Meredith ““ her smile, her laugh, the way she’d help anyone with anything ““ she couldn’t help laughing herself.
And good photos and another report in the Daily Mail.
Celebrating the ‘resilience and strength’ she has shown in supporting her family, the 29-year-old will receive the Ultimate Editor’s Choice accolade at the event, which celebrates the year’s most inspirational figures.
Cosmopolitan editor Louise Court said: ‘Since the death of her sister, Meredith, five years ago, Stephanie remains an inspiring figure of strength and support…
‘Most impressive of all is her single-minded desire to ensure her sister isn’t forgotten and to make sure her personality shines through any projects she undertakes…
‘A devoted daughter and sister who has shown extraordinary courage and love in the most difficult circumstances, Stephanie is fully deserving of her award and we are delighted to celebrate with her tonight.’
Stephanie will receive her award at a star-studded ceremony at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum on Tuesday evening, with the likes of Jessica Ennis, Kimberley Walsh and Alesha Dixon also set to be in attendance.

Congrats to Stephanie for winning the Ultimate Editor’s Choice award at this year’s Cosmo Awards ceremony! This is so well-deserved! She has shown such grace under pressure during the past five years. She continues to keep Meredith’s name and life and personality in the headlines. Go, Steph!
Amen to that.
Congratulations Stephanie Kercher!

Congratulations, Ms Stephanie Kercher! We all are proud of you.
Wow, I had not visited here for a few days and I am so pleased to see this now. I can’t think of a more deserving person to win this. Congratulations Stephanie, may many more good things come your way and your family’s.
Absolutely wonderful news.
There is also a video from ITV Daybreak:

I would be interested to hear more about the trust/fund, though. Most of the interviews I’ve seen don’t go into much detail, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the name mentioned.
Is anybody able to provide more information?
Andrea Vogt has written an excellent article about the anniversary of Meredith’s sad death and the possible outcomes of the final appeal:

@ Mr Brownstone
According to this Nov. 1, 2012 Daily Star article,
“Stephanie, 29, hopes to kick off the fund within two weeks using cash left over from her campaign for justice for Meredith.”

What a lovely article and it helps us know Stephanie - and through her, Meredith - a little better, too.
I had thought somehow that Stephanie spoke Italian. It is interesting that both sisters went for Italian - such a beautiful language and so good that Stephanie is able to liaise with their Italian team.
Tonight is indeed the 5th anniversary and Meredith is very much in the spotlight as we remember her beauty and ultimate humanity.
I hope that her murderers are thinking of Meredith at this time, too. May they NEVER forget what they did on that dark night five years ago.
The Huffington Post has an article about Stephanie Kercher setting up a charity to help victims’ families:
Innanzitutto congratulazioni a Stephanie Kercher.
The Corte di Cassazione (ruling n. 17408/2012 on Oct 12, 2012) set aside the Milano judgemennt against Fiorenza Sarzanini’s book and Corriere della Sera, sending it back to Court.
In the same ruling the CdC definitively canceled AK’s requests of damage against the “Magazine of Corriere della Seraâ€.

Thank you for these links, ncountryside.
If I understand correctly, there was a ruling AGAINST Fiorenza Sarzanini and Corriere della Sera at an appeal level (which must mean that at the first level they ruled in FAVOUR of FS and CdS and AGAINST AK?) and then it was re-appealed at Cassazione who have ruled in favour of FS and CdS but sent it back to the appeal court? Is that correct?
Does Italy have the same judicial stages for civil cases as for criminal cases? Is this one counted as civil and not criminal?
I suppose that the Appeal Court could still rule in AK’s favour a second time? On what specific grounds did Cassazione make its decision?
Sorry for all the questions. I can read Italian with the help of my knowledge of other languages but it is not accurate.
I must say, though, that this is encouraging news which bodes well for March!
Sorry, just re-read your last sentence about AK’s request for damages against Corriere della Sera being DEFINITIVELY REJECTED.
GOOD.
AK should hang her head in shame and accept the consequences of her actions be they in the judicial or social realm.
News reports are in the social realm and I would say most of the time (with the exception of outright and blatant lies) they are inevitable if a person murders another person.
In such a case the murderer must expect to forfeit any sense of entitlement to rights of privacy!
The editors could not have made a better choice, given the strength and class Stephanie has shown over the past five years. It’s definitely encouraging to see that Meredith has not been forgotten and that her family’s efforts to help others are being recognized.
While the only true justice for Meredith and other murder victims - another chance at life - is out of human hands, I do hope her family gets some closure via legal channels before long.
Thundering. Appeal court definitively rejected damages against the Magazine of Corriere della Sera, and sent the case back to another hearing in Milano on damages against Sarzanini’s book. And for the moment no E 40K to AK.
Great news, congratulations Stephanie.
Thanks a lot ncountryside for this news about Corriere. We’ll make a post of this next week.
This is a big legal and PR setback for the Knox-Mellas forces and it will be widely noted in Italy as they had crowed loudly when they first won the damages award which was for 40,000 Euros. Their legal situation takes yet another turn for the worse.
To explain matters to newer readers, this was our original post on the case about the 2008 book by Fiorenza Sarzanini and the Corriere magazine excerpts from it - which you can still read in Italian or English right there.
The Sarzanini book is also still on sale via Amazon and you might want to grab a copy (we have some) if you read Italian at all.

Very hard to see why any trial court would find those quotes in Corriere in breach of privacy or defamatory - worse has come out since, some directly from Knox herself, and it could even be presumed that Knox was trying to help herself if she leaked the diary in the first place.
Much more has been leaked by the Knox-Mellas-Sollecito forces, and their defense lawyers who throughout have leaked like sieves, much of it flat-out wrong - they even tried leaking to us.
There seem to have been attempts to make some of these leaks look as if they came from the prosecution, but despite the claims of Curt Knox’s hatchet men, Mignini never leaks (a beef of reporters!) and the police hardly ever if at all .

Corriere is no friend of the Knox-Mellas-Sollecitos and the paper has hit back repeatedly against the xenophobic and defamatory rantings of their PR campaign. Example here:
Good for the family to be reminded which side the British public are on.
We’re 100% behind you love, HUGE congratulations!
