In US Casey Anthony May Have Seized Control Of Her PR Now Freed

Posted by Peter Quennell

It seems Casey Anthony may have seized control of her own PR and dumped her lead lawyer for not landing her a megabucks deal.

Her lead lawyer was Jose Baez (image above) who may not yet have been fully paid for getting her off minus the convictions for lying to the cops. Early on, Jose Baez compared her to Amanda Knox who now also appears to be struggling for a megabucks deal. Clearly not much synergy there.

Casey Anthony’s need for money to pay her bills and set herself up after her probation period ends (she is now confined to a hideway in Florida) are said to be considerable. For example she owes the State of Florida about $100,000 toward their investigation costs for so often leading them astray.

Last month it was reported that her latest pitch was for $500,000 to $750,000 for a first interview - and that most TV networks had already passed.

Casey Anthony seemed to have had a short shelf life. A few days ago it was conjectured that Jodi Arias may now be edging out Casey Anthony in the notoriety stakes. Jodi Arias has just been accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend and also stabbing him 27 times.

But in this context - perhaps coincidence, perhaps not - two video diaries by Casey Anthony suddenly surface and promptly they go viral. The first one is below. This is Diane Dimond’s report about this in the Daily Beast.

It only took six months””to the day””for Casey Anthony to catapult herself back into the nation’s consciousness. Six months after the verdict in her notorious murder trial, Anthony’s visage flooded computer screens worldwide.

Viewers were fascinated by her suddenly short blonde hair, her oversize reading glasses, and her self-absorbed four-minute soliloquy during which she mentioned herself more than 40 times and uttered not one word about her dead baby girl, Caylee, or her family….

It’s confirmed that it is Casey Anthony on the video. One of Anthony’s criminal-defense lawyers says she kept notes and a video blog as part of her “continuing therapy.” But Cheney Mason steadfastly maintains it wasn’t Anthony who let it loose on the Internet…

Mason was part of the team that successfully defended the young mother during her murder trial and, according to two sources, has now displaced Jose Baez as the media spokesperson for Anthony””apparently at her request.

People close to both men report a recent major falling out among all the parties””between Baez and Anthony, between Baez and Mason””sparked by Anthony’s displeasure at Baez’s inability to win her a TV, book, or movie deal.

Anthony apparently gave Baez until the end of the year to come up with a deal, and absent that anointed Mason as her official liaison. Just how involved Baez will be in Anthony’s future affairs isn’t known, but his unhappiness with the situation has supposedly caused strain around his law office. As one person close to this story who did not want to be identified put it, “Jose is on the outs now. Cheney is in.”

There are many unknowns about the videos. While Anthony gives the date of the v-blog as October 2011, there is no way of knowing exactly when she spoke into her webcam, immortalizing herself.

She could have done it after the first of the year as part of a new self-directed publicity plan””a way to test the waters about a possible rebranding of her image.

Whoever leaked the two videos, whether it was Casey Anthony intent on rebranding herself or another who pirated the videos (Diane Dimond reports the various theories), it may have worked to Casey Anthony’s advantage. Radar Online has just reported this:

Casey Anthony’s web videos have caused a renewed interest in the notorious “˜Tot Mom’ and RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that a website has offered her an enormous sum for her first post jail sit down interview.

Nik Lamas-Richie, founder of the website The Dirty, has offered Casey Anthony a whopping $350,000 for an interview, according to a source close to the situation.

This is the website referred to. Better take a look, Mr Marriott.  But not too close.

Who says crime does not pay?

“After his Ignoble Disgrace, Satan was being expelled from Heaven.  As he passed through the Gates, he paused a moment in thought, and turned to God and said, “A new creature called Man, I hear, is soon to be created.”

“This is true,” He replied.

“He will need laws,” said the Demon slyly.

“What!  You, his appointed Enemy for all Time!  You ask for the right to make his laws?”

“Oh, no!”  Satan replied, “I ask only that he be allowed to make his own.”

It was so granted.”

Hello everyone,

I’ve been following this site since the beginning and have only posted once or twice before. I’m the guy that travelled to Perugia once on a driving trip through Italy in August 2009, where I saw Curatolo in Grimana square.

I’d like to express how this place feels like Meredith’s guardian angel in death after life.  It was as if no one was there to help her when she was taken but True Justice was created out of some miracle to protect her spirit living on!

Amanda supporters, by definition, try to erase the memory of Meredith and I believe that’s why this site was even created in the first place - to stop a campaign of victimization by the family/ David Marriott and to shine the light back unto Meredith and her family- the real victims.

Way to go Peter and friends, you are doing a noble thing here. And just to comment on the actual post, psychopaths/murderers can run but they can’t hide and will eventually be discovered!

1/11/12 @Peter, I’m glad you mentioned Jodi Arias. She’s got icewater in her veins. I couldn’t help but compare her to Amanda. Jodi allegedly stabbed Travis to death within a few hours of having been intimate, as photos of them were found. Anger can kindle in a split second especially with some people. Snapped, then mask of sweetness like Amanda.

Raffaele’s father has been quoted in OGGI and also the local Italian papers today: RS is not engaged, the girl in the photo is a long time friend, they are just friends but the media picked up the photo and made a story about this. The father says RS is focused on writing and confirms that he has a book deal with a publisher. He went on to talk about the cost of the defense.

Hi Hopeful. Yeah there is a growing discussion of such syndromes - nurture or nature? - which we’ll summarise in one of the next few posts.

Hi Patri. Thanks. Tips on Italian reports are really appreciated. There are links to two of the Italian language reports on this in the thread under this one. You dont seem to be seeing a split between father and son? Some of the Italian media paint it as Papa Doc somewhat reigning Raffaele in.

Follow-up reports on the Casey Anthony/Jose Baez story summarized above are flowing thick and fast.

Several reports say CA has claimed she resents Baez grandstanding in his own interests not hers (he was an unknown from Puerto Rico when she asked him to take her case based on jailhouse buzz about him) and he had asked for a $750,000 fee for an interview - with himself.

Shades of David Marriott chortling vainly about himself soon after AK arrived home. That report was hurriedly yanked - but not before Skep posted on it.

http://truejustice.org/ee/index.php?/tjmk/comments/knox_public_relations_manager_starts_premature_crowing/

CA is claiming to be annoyed at the release of the video diaries. The videos were recorded from a TV screen so it’s possible CA put them up in restricted circulation (you can do that with YouTubes) and someone in the circle broke trust.

The guy who first uploaded the video to YouTube is claiming he found the video on a $2 pay-per-view website. She may know the guy (Rob Hensley) whoi it seems has a criminal record and it seems distributed nude photos of CA.

http://scallywagandvagabond.com/2012/01/are-these-topless-photos-of-casey-anthony-real/  ABC News may have bought the second video.

Also in a pre-trial deposition of CA’s psychiatrist unsealed today CA claimed to him that she was raped when passed out at a party, hence the arrival of Caylee. Possible? Well it has seemed odd that she was in denial about the pregnancy up to the last moment.

Anchor on CNN Headline news says she should tell the story for FREE if she wants to do the best for herself. Gulp? That may be the reaction in the Knox camp. For what it is worth there is a very long chat thread below this article in the Orlando Sentinel.

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_tv_tvblog/2012/01/casey-anthony-vinnie-politan-urges-give-up-on-selling-your-story.html

And there is a lot on the warring psychological takes on CA with seeming relevance to AK. We want to post on that next. This is all lacking in class even by Amanda Knox’s standards. The race to the bottom is on!!.

Posted by Peter Quennell on 01/12/12 at 04:21 AM | #

In the photos that were picked up from RS’s facebook, he is almost sticking his tongue in her throat, has given various captions to suggest they r an item and his father says they are just friends!! The media made a story?? More like he wrote a story and the media published it. Not sure who the doctor thinks he is fooling. There seems to be some kind of conflict emerging between daddy and sonny boy already. He seems to be in the same boat as AK - owes too much to family and now that he is free, he has started resenting it.

Regarding the book deal, wouldn’t it be great if both come up with conflicting versions of “true stories” in their respective books. I wonder if daddy will allow them to talk to each other to coordinate their stories.

All very interesting & puzzling.
Google for recent news on Amanda Knox & you come up with October. So much for the fabled paparazzi. Old news now: a Christian news report of a possible Ten Million Dollar TV interview for Amanda.

But meanwhile here’s Casey Anthony on her own TV show & report of a half-million dollar offer from Larry Flynt.

So two notorious females surprise us by being acquitted & may now think of themselves (or else their handlers think of them) as worth big money.

For comment on our celebrity culture think magazines in doctors’ offices.
Like Casey Anthony, Amanda’s celebrity is anchored in a persisting rumor of somewhere a dark, dark deed.

By the way, I can’t stand CA. Her video diary is making me sick and I wanted to hurl something at the monitor. But I still think AK is the more evil of the two. Atleast CA did not take away someone else’s daughter or sister. She did not cause grief to someone’s loving parents who had sacrificed a lot to bring up their daughter. She did not make some other family suffer. Whatever she did or did not do, atleast she is the one who is supposed to suffer for it.

Sara,

I do not think CA ever felt any attachment to the baby: not a drop of motherly feelings. For all practical purposes, Calyee was just a liability to be got rid of at the earliest.  I would consider her crime to be far more heinous as the little girl was so helpless, so defenceless, so dependent and so innocent…

But I would certainly agree that AK is sicker of the two. CA showed no remorse and no distress but also no signs of sickness.

Hi Sara and Chami.

You’ve opened up an interesting line of thought with these comparisons and I could imagine this taken a lot further, perhaps in a two-column format, and hope you or others interested might continue. (Sorry Sara, unpleasant work, but fruitful if somebody does it.)

The Casey Anthony case has so far resulted in main posts here in three areas: jury behavior, the CSI Effect, and in this post the post-release problems of self-promotion. Theres another post to come on the warring books on her psychology.

Previously the Machine posted on nice girls who surprisingly killed without direct comparisons with AK; he was making an important general point (nice girls can kill).

http://truejustice.org/ee/index.php?/tjmk/comments/more_on_motive_some_of_the_cases_of_nice_girls_who_killed_with_little_/

And Giustizia posted our one direct comparison of AK with anyone else - AK’s similarities to Scott Peterson.

http://truejustice.org/ee/index.php?/tjmk/comments/master_manipulators_masks_and_murder_parallels_of_the_amanda_knox_and_/

We also posted several times on Joran van der Sloot, the probable killer of Natalee Holloway, who pleaded guilty yesterday to killing Stephany Flores and will be sentenced in Peru tomorrow.

By the way, the psychologist and psychiatrist who examined Casey Anthony over some months found her to be normal. That wasn’t the case with AK and RS when they were examined in 2009.

They weren’t found batshit crazy (hence their trial, with no insanity defense) but they were assessed as a danger. This wasn’t used at trial but as the just-released Casey deposition shows these mental examinations can legally be made public.

One other similarity between CA and AK, is jury/judicial nullification where a judge or jury ignores all the evidence, and arrives at perverse conclusions unsupported by fact or reasonable argument :0

Excellent work once again,Peter

To all the various people- your analysis on the footprint on the mat from Sollecito was outstanding and definitive.

Could somebody please be able to do the same type of analysis on the pillow just to confirm that the shoeprint on there , if not necessarily proven to be Knox’s, is DEFINITELY not Guede’s Nike Outbreak ones.

As far as I can see from Guede it is almost inexplicable that he didn’t even attempt to lie about where the bloody handprint on the pillow came from. To my mind he simply had no idea.

The Massei report was a document of extreme intellect and the truth. For understandable reasons(i.e he had way more than enough reasons in 427 pages to prosecute the disturbing couple) the excellent judge did not particularly discuss the staged rape evidence for the crime scene.
I haven’t read Micheli or any of the other trial judges reports so don’t know if anything specifically is said about the particular aspect of the case in those reports either.

To clarify they all agreed with A sexual assault-but not the one at the crime scene which had clearly been manipulated to make it better go in tandem with the staged burglary.

To my mind the pillow cover may well have been mistook by Guede for a towel or cloth in the bathroom (where it may been drying on the radiator) by Rudy to assist in stopping Meredith’s bleeding. That wouldn’t have been the primary cloths he used but his bloody hands may have gotten onto it that way.

Just like the shoeprint can’t be exact as the pillow is a non-uniform surface I find it tricky that Guede managed to leave a coherent handprint on that same pillow if the cover was actually on the pillow at the time. I think it wasn’t on the pillow and just flat on the floor when his hand was placed on the cover

Summary:

The pillow cover originally on was taken off and replaced with the cover that Guede had mistook for a cloth to stop the bleeding. Knox then used her foot(with shoes on) to place the pillow underneath Meredith’s body and thus frame Guede even more. This would explain why he can’t he offer an explanation-real or fake.

Now that you mention it Peter, here are my two cent’s worth on why I think AK is the more evil:

1) She had no actual reason to kill. At least in CA’s case, there is a modicum of reason no matter how evil it is. Like chami said, Caylee was a liability who has hampering her lifestyle. Plenty of new mothers are unable to cope from time to time. In CA’s case, given the kind of selfish person she was, she was unable to cope most of the times.

Also, if she was indeed raped like she claims, one can at least understand why she might have not loved Caylee. AK, on the other hand, had no reasonable motive at all. Meredith had done nothing to her, in fact tried to help her when she could. Every scenario that we can think of comes back to the same thing - jealousy and evil.

2) Even if AK could not stand Meredith, all she had to do was wait for a few months and they would go their own separate ways. Or she could have moved in with RS. Plenty of girls move in with their bf’s just bcz they can’t stand their roommates. There was nothing big binding AK to Meredith, she could have simply walked off.

3) It is not really clear how Caylee really died, but according to prosecution’s theory, CA was at least kinder than the evil three who ganged up against Meredith and killed her in such a cruel, brutal way. The sheer brutality of the actions makes AK more evil for me.

4) Like i said before, CA at least did not destroy someone else’s family. She did not cause grief to someone else’s mother, sister, father, brother. She did not hurt someone else’s child whom they had brought up with a lot of love and sacrifices. AK, on the other hand, hurt someone who meant a lot to many people. I’m not saying Caylee is any less precious… but the only person who is supposed to really grieve over her, who was supposed to cherish her is CA herself.

On the other hand, I can and do see where chami is coming from. Here’s why:

1) If CA was not prepared to deal with motherhood, she could have simply given up Caylee for adoption . She had plenty of time to make her choices (9 months is a long time to decide).

2) Like chami said, the child was so innocent and defenseless and completely trusting. She probably came to CA willingly when called. The thought of it makes me want to cry :(

3) CA was the one who was supposed to protect the child against others.

4) CA was certified normal. That makes it horribly scary. She does not even have the excuse of being insane. On the other hand, releasing insane people back into society is far more dangerous for others.

I could go on and on I suppose. Finally, some similarities between the two:

1) Both AK and CA completely misled the investigation with a 100 false stories and alibis.

2) Both seem to have really low self esteem using sex to attract others.

3) Both have shown no remorse and instead have tried to make it all about themselves.

4) Both got off on mere technicalities rather than any proof of innocence.

5) Both are trying to make money out of someone’s tragedy.

The only differences between the two I can see is that AK is still relatively fortunate in that she has her family’s support and also some people who believe in her innocence. CA on the other hand is almost universally hated.

However, whether the family support is a good thing or bad, only time will tell.

Sara, I have twice read through your interesting comparisons between Amanda K & Casey A. I think you’re right in calling Amanda’s crime more “evil” than Casey’s.

But is Amanda, then, by nature an “evil” person? Or does this word reflect anything more than a (human) judgement we pass on such things? Or vary the question: is she, was she a temporary psychopath, thanks to drugs, or “born that way?”

Just yesterday as I write I found on The Mail an article on Amber Roderick, 19, [who] lured a 16-year-old to a house party where she was plied with drink and drugs before being gang-raped at knife-point.

As if in a grotesque reenactment of the action that took Meredith’s life, this young woman & her two male friends repeat the pattern. But then—& here’s my point—look at the photos of Amber & her two male associates.

Shades of Cesar Lombroso & his theory of the criminal type! These people look the very type of those who would do such a thing (in photos designedly unflattering?)

Whereas Amanda & Raffaele don’t look remotely of the type (& would Professor Lombroso agree? Did Judge Hellman, possibly unconsciously influenced by his co-Italian & quite famous scientist?)

I don’t think Amanda was “born that way” but she certainly didn’t acquire those bonds of fellow-feeling which, in maturity, can ripen into understanding & compassion. And why not?  Too clearly, it is within the family matrix—within the nest—that these initial ties are formed.

What Amanda does need (& Raffaele also) is a probing of the psychic depths such as men like Freud, Jung & Adler endeavored—with high success. Her psychosis lies within her as a kind of complex (on my hypothesis) which her Italian freedom & her unfeeling, spiteful nature allowed to blossom in the presence of a woman as self-respecting & intensely favored as Meredith Kercher.

Seems unlikely that she will ever get that or, as a resolute person can, attempt it on her own.  Nothing else can redeem her soul from metaphorical Hell.
